The ASICSTIGER Gel Saga was originally released in 1991, and in the current trend of retros, they have re-released it as part of their modern ‘lifestyle’ collection.
ASICSTIGER GEL technology provides responsive, cushioning support from heel to toe, while the compression moulded EVA midsole absorbs shock to minimise the impact of hard ground contact. The result is a high performing, supportive shoe.
So with that in mind, this is basically a very comfortable trainer…that’s one big massive yes for me. I cannot stand uncomfortable shoes, and surprisingly many trainers can be.
Having worn them I can confirm these are a very comfortable shoe and from someone with literally hundreds of pairs, I would say my opinion is pretty valid?
On a style note, the retro scene is having a big moment in terms of trainers. Every sneaker brand is delving into its 90’s back catalogue before the 90’s trend dies down and frankly it was a great era for kicks!
These Gel Saga’s are a classic, simple but bold silhouette. The colourway I chose, Navy, Fuchsia and White are pretty easy to match with denim, tracksuits etc. But there are also a few other colour ways in this shoe, all simple but with bold colour pops, making them fun and playful but not too much of a statement.
I chose to style mine with baggy, blue Levis jeans and a blue denim belt bag to coordinate with the navy in the shoes.
A multi-stripe, rainbow jumper because stripes are fun and this jumper cost (my mum) a lot of money many years ago so it’s great to see literally 10 years on it’s still going strong! Stripes are a key trend this summer and going into autumn, so it goes to show investment pieces are worth it. Plus the pink in the stripes balances out the pink in the rest of the look, and the green gives a nice balance between my hair and the other tones.
I teamed this with a bright pink bomber jacket to enhance the pink elements in the shoes.
And finally this seasons sunglasses trend; the small oblong look, in perspex to further balance out the colours and keep the look contemporary.
I really loved playing with colours in this look, while still trying to keep a balance and look ‘my age’… dare I say it. All I mean is I’m not 16 and with rainbow stripes and trainers you can run the risk of needing your ID for paracetamol if you don’t style them right!
The rule is; keep it fun but sophisticated at the same time as casual but not sloppy.
Don’t put your hair in pigtails and carry a rucksack or you have gone too far; abort!
But do put a belt bag on baggy jeans to bring them into 2018’s chic radar.
This is a casual day in the city look and I hope you are inspired to try something similar.
