This shoe is made of trash!
Have you seen the new Nike Air VaporMax 2020 Flyknit? And have you heard it’s made with at least 50% recycled materials by weight? I’m SO excited to share that I am in the #MoveToZero campaign with JD Women and Nike Sportswear.
Just to be clear I was paid to post on my Instagram but I am voluntarily putting this on my blog as I want to.
As you might know from previous work I have done I am really keen to push forward sustainability especially in the Sneaker World.
These are Flyknit so plant-based too. Their design is techy and beautiful in my opinion. I love all the raw materials and visible compartments.
Also, they are ACCESSIBLE with Nike FlyEase innovation — a one-handed lock and release mechanism that instantly secures the entire foot. Making shoes easier to put on and wear for everyone.
Below is the image from my Instagram post. I changed the look slightly when I was shooting and I liked them both so below this image is another look. I thought it would be cool to show both here on my blog.
I love the colourway and the fact that it’s made using raw materials. By utilising leftover materials, recycled polyester, recycled foam and a Nike Air-Sole made from at least 75% recycled TPU, the VaporMax 2020 Flyknit marks the next step towards Nike’s ultimate goal of zero carbon and zero waste. Which would be amazing wouldn’t it?
Compared to traditional cut-and-sew manufacturing, Flyknit uppers produce about 60% less waste, while still providing lightweight comfort and support. With Flyknit, we build the upper stitch by stitch to minimise waste. The Nike Air VaporMax 2020 Flyknit uses recycled polyester yarns made from plastic bottles in the upper, and manufacturing waste, such as recycled foams and recycled rubbers, to help reduce its carbon footprint even further. And, carrying on the tradition of all Air soles made in their US Air Manufacturing Innovation facility since December 2019, this new Air unit is made using 100% renewable wind energy.

For me, as someone who is keen to push fashion, especially sneakers and streetwear in a more sustainable and plant-based direction this is a win. SURE not every box is ticked but the fact that so many aspects of the manufacturing process have evolved into a more sustainable process is a major step in the right direction.
