So I’ve been running around like a nutter since last Friday attending shows and presentations at London Fashion Week. As both a blogger and stylist it’s really important for me to see the new collections as I’ll be wanting to call them in for styling jobs and also get some inspiration for my own looks.
Below is a an overview of some of my favourite shows/presentations. Obviously I can’t make them all so there will be some I missed that were really good too but I think it’s more interesting to report on what I actually saw first hand. Tell me if I’m wrong please?
Above is the Clio Peppiatt presentation which ticked a lot of boxes for me! Bad ass womenswear that brings together glitzy girly glam and punk rock attitude. They totally smashed it! You had me at the flames…
Typical Freaks bought us a kawaii pyjama party with socks and slides in toe… The all over patterns and oversized silhouettes bring a contemporary feel with the Japanese influence bringing a slightly vintage element to a unique collection. As a collection Typical Freaks always make an impact but by taking out the pieces from the collection they can make a very cool slightly more subtle statement for everyday appeal. It’s good to bare this in mind as when you go to presentations and shows they are looking for the shock factor and it can be hard to see how else something can be styled.
Han Wen took women’s glamour to a whole new level. The chain and leather details add a rock n roll element to his luxurious gowns and the layering, off the shoulder and high neck silhouettes bring a contemporary and cutting edge feel. If I was dressing someone for or attending a red carpet or ball I would LOVE to use this collection. The heels where totally ridiculous but amazing for the show or photoshoots!
Fei Fei Cicada took over the V&A museum for an incredibly decedent show. Chinese couture seen at its most traditional in 2016 is fairly rare but still held its own during show season. The setting made for beautiful atmosphere and once the show was over we were taken into a presentation to see the collection up close. different but very memorable!
Last but not least my favourite presentation every season is Belstaff. I’m a biker chick at heart and their bad ass style and incredibly executed design is the perfect combination.
This season saw the second Liv Tyler x Belstaff capsule collection for SS17, I don’t know who is cooler or more rock n roll that than combination personally!? Taking influence from the end of the 1960’s/start of the 1970’s English countryside, reminiscent of the rock n roll characters drawn to area. Liv explains “I wanted to tap into the spirit of those women at that time, combining it with my love of Belstaff’s military archive pieces, yet done in my way.” The result is a capsule that is strong, yet feminine and playful at the same time.
Belstaff always put their all into their presentations, turning them into a total experience and living lookbook. I just stay as long as I can trying to pretend I’m in the campaign … hah!
I’ll be posting an outfit roundup asap so you can see what I’ve been wearing everyday too.
