Mocktails are alcohol free versions of Cocktails, but why on earth would I want those?!
Well I’ve been on a clean and lean crusade since New Years and here is why…
I’ve suffered in the past with all sorts of illnesses; Constant Tonsillitis when I was younger until they removed my tonsils. The Flu and Sinus infections. Ear infections to the point of bleeding… Period Pain to the point of being hospitalised. I have been diagnosed with probable Endometriosis as a result of the pain… Chronic tummy ache and IBS. Asthma…
Anyway the point is over the years through eliminating foods and seeing what might be causing the issues has REALLY helped me. I fond out Gluten was an issue for example, and then too much diary. One thing that constantly cropped up in all the questions with doctors or on write ups about Endometriosis etc was Alcohol. I didn’t drink alcohol for 2 years straight, about 5-6 years ago.
During this time it was not only positive to my body but also to my mind. I became more confident because I would go out to parties sober and still dance and enjoy myself without the embarrassment of ‘being sober’ I had in the past. I realised everyone else is probably drunk so won’t notice anyway and plus it just made me embrace and not care about what I looked like if I’m having fun.
5 nearly 6 years down the line and I’ve had a struggle with keeping fit and healthy. Flu and Endometriosis have been issues and I’m cutting back my diet, adding in fermented foods and trying to clean my GUT in any way possible. I’ll write a blog post about Feeding and Cleaning my Gut soon…
I decided I could feel a difference in my body when I drank… so once and for all I decided to cut it out again and see how I felt and if I found it hard.
So far it’s easy and I’m not even slightly bothered. I enjoy myself sober and I like the taste of mocktails.
During LFW I have been spending time at The Apt and their Haig Club bar is awesome. Ever night the bar guys are making me mocktails and I love them! I feel like everyone else so there’s no ‘fomo’ about missing out on having a drink with people. And honestly with going to the gym, no alcohol and a really healthy diet of fermented foods, very little processed foods, protein and fibre I’m feeling really good and haven’t got sick since before Christmas.
So anyway that’s my diary update on drinking or the lack of it so far…
