I’ve just got back from a trip to Berlin, and it was my first time there.
I was taken out for the launch event of the new Asics Gel Kayano 5, a remake of the original model from 1999.
We had a good few days exploring the city, trying out the Kayano 5 on foot and eating all the Japanese food the city has to offer.
Asics always go all out with their events and make sure to really explore and push their Japanese heritage no matter where they are in the world at the time.
We went for sushi at Zenkichi, Raman at Cocolo and during the launch event, they had lots of different Japanese food vendors.
We went on a tour of West Berlin to find photo spots and generally explore with Highsnobiety.
Myself and Juice did our own exploration trips across the city on the first and last days. Finding the best sneaker stores and hitting up the amazing Cortex Records store so I could get my hardcore music, merch fix! We visited Voo store, Overkill and Overkill Womens, Sneakers N Stuff, Kickz, we went to the KW Institute For Contemporary Art and loads of Vintage shops.
I’m a really big fan of the retro Kayano 5 model, it ticks all the ‘Dad Sneaker’ trend boxes. And unlike other shoes in that genre, it actually has a story to tell.
Asics and Highsnobiety really excelled themselves with the launch event. There was an arcade games room, a dance machine competition, amazing music from the likes of Soichi Terada and endless food stalls and bars. The Japanese theme really got put to use and there was a great atmosphere with like-minded people interested in having fun rather than just stunting or trying to be ‘hype.’ Which unfortunately at fashion events is often the case.
I had a great time and below are some of the photos I capture during the trip.
This photo of me was captured by Juice, and edited by me.
The infamous Juice Gee, the Ying to my Yang in the sneaker world.
I found a cute dog so of course, I had to take a pic.
This is Tom, he’s an avid Asics collector and photographer for UK sneaker store Footpatrol.
Here’s the 2018 Kayano 5 on foot. They come on Nov 16th.
During the Launch Event below which was SO MUCH FUN!

On our last day in the city, we took a look around sneaker stores. And of course, took some outfit shots. haha.
I’ll have another blog post soon with all my favourite food spots, that I managed to find during this trip to Berlin.
I picked these up from VOO store which is a really cool, high end streetwear store in Berlin.
