Styling male model Tyler Hendrix from AMCK for The Arcadia online recently was a lot of fun.
Photographer Tom Joy who is based between London and Leeds asked me if I wanted to style a new male model in town; Tyler Hendrix. Whether or not he was a relation to the late Jimi Hendrix was unknown at this point but he did bare some resemblance so there was hope! Either way this American male model looked so different to anyone I had worked with recently I felt like I couldn’t say no.
When working with models it’s great to be able to have some say on the casting, only because different looks will have a big impact on my styling. Meaning I can take it in a totally different direction depending on their looks. For me it’s not about who is hot it’s about who is interesting and can bring something different to the table. Tyler definitely does with his long flowing hair, strong jawline and great skin.
So we went about planning for a shoot with a twist on masculinity. Smart meets casual, with long hair vs hair up in a bun. Monochrome meets metallics and pattern.
